Second ASEAN-EUIPO Heads of IP Offices Meeting

The Second ASEAN-EUIPO Heads of IP Offices Meeting was held in Alicante, Spain, on 2 October 2015. The meeting took place at the headquarters of EUIPO in Alicante.

The Heads of the IP Offices of the ten ASEAN countries, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, together with a representative of the ASEAN Secretariat met with EUIPO Executive Director and adopted a joint summary of the meeting.

This document acknowledges the importance of trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications in the economies of the ASEAN region and the European Union and the essential role of these IP rights in ensuring that ASEAN and European businesses continue to flourish.

It also appreciates the fact that the ASEAN Economic Ministers, at their 47^th Meeting held on 22^nd August 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, recognized with satisfaction the work done by the ASEAN Member States in the field of IP particularly in the context of the ECAP III Phase II, such as the adoption of Common Guidelines on Substantive Examination, the finalization of the ASEAN List of Goods and Services and the launch of on-line search tools, namely, ASEAN TMview, ASEAN TMclass and ASEAN Designview.
