Creative ASEAN

This activity is aimed at raising awareness about the role of IP in promoting creativity through the organization of a “Creative ASEAN” Design Competition in the framework of initiative 10 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2011-2015, Creative ASEAN, for which ASEAN country champion is Thailand.

2013

The project collaborated with DIP Thailand in the preparation of a proposal to prepare the grounds of the Creative ASEAN initiative for which this country is country champion. The proposal was discussed among the ASEAN Member States on the occasion of the 42th meeting of the AWGIPC held in Langkawi in November 2013.

As agreed in the context of those consultations, in 2014 the project would collaborate with DIP Thailand in the preparatory work required for the organisation of a “Creative ASEAN” Design Competition and Exhibition to take place in Thailand in 2015.

2014

With the support of an experienced company in the field of design competitions, the project provided a detailed guide for the organisation of such competition in ASEAN with a focus in the field of gems and jewellery. The guidelines covered all aspects necessary for the sound organisation of such an event and foresaw the competition in two phases, a first national phase directed by the National IP Office of each country that would result in the selection of the five best designs per AMS, and a second regional phase during which a regional jury would select one winner per country that would be part of the winners´ podium of the Creative Jewellery ASEAN Competition.

2015

In preparation for the launching of the competition that took place in February 2015, the project provided for the regulations of the design competition as well as the technical profile of the members of the jury.

The national competition phase was launched by the ASEAN IP Offices in March 2015, running until the end of May 2015. As a result, preselected lists of designers were submitted by the AMSs to take part in the regional phase of this competition.

The winners per country were then selected by the Jury of the competition during the meeting that took place in Bangkok from 18 to 19 June 2015.
