Regional Workshop on Economic Study Methodology

29 April 2014 to 30 April 2014

A Regional Workshop on a Methodology to Assess the Contribution of IPR-intensive Industries to the ASEAN Economies was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 29 to 30 April 2014.

The meeting was attended by strategic planners from the ASEAN Member States, officials from the ASEAN Secretariat, in particular those dealing with statistics, a member of the Chief Economist Team from OHIM and the ECAP Project Leader.

During the two-day workshop, a methodology that could assist AMS to carry out an study to measure the economic impact of IP rights in their economies by qualifying the contribution made by IPR-intensive industries (those having an above-average use of IPR per employee) was shared. An economic study of this nature would contribute to promote the value of IPRs among policy makers and the business community in the ASEAN region, the role of IP in supporting innovation and creativity as well as serve as a basis to undertake other awareness raising activities thereafter.
